It corresponds to Challenge I of the Canary Islands Geo Innovation Program 2030 (CGIP2030), which aims to develop a public infrastructure for shared use, in the Fuerteventura Technology Park, for R&D&I, integration, operation, maintenance and testing of HAPS and UAS platforms.

HAPS and UAV platforms, due to their size, physical characteristics and way of operating, require ground bases with open areas and special characteristics for their proper integration and operation.
The project has the support of the European Space Agency through a Letter of Agreement formalized on 25
May 2019 to join forces to enable the implementation of a High Altitude Pseudo-Satellite Stratoport (HAPS) in the Canary Islands.
It has a budget for its Phase 1 of 11 million euros financed by the European Union through the Regional Development Fund (ERDF 2014-2020), the government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Fuerteventura through the Fuerteventura Technology Park.
It is an action co-financed with a repayable loan in the amount of €8.380.000,00 granted to Parque Tecnológico de Fuerteventura, SA MP, file EIS 1908, for the financing of the public R&D equipment and infrastructure project called Canarias Stratoport for HAPS, of the call for Expression of Interest for the granting of FEDER aid within the PO FEDER CANARIAS 2014-2020, granted by Order No. 242 of December 9, 2019 of the Minister of Economy, Knowledge and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands.
Thanks to this investment, a European infrastructure called Canarias Stratoport for HAPS has been developed in the Fuerteventura Technology Park, which includes the shared use elements necessary for the different actors working on its research and development to be able to test, test and certify engineering models and prototypes of HAPS platforms and, in the medium term, operate them. This will allow the development of new applications and onboard missions. The objective is to create a pioneering technological hub in Europe for the development, integration, operation, maintenance and onboarding of HAPS platform applications and missions.
